The Bluetti AC200p Solar Generator
In the world of portable solar stations the heavyweights pack the hardest power punch. And this beast is no exception. We are talking the 2000w solar stations that are capable of powering a domestic chest freezer for 28hrs, before charge depletion. The Bluetti AC200p Solar Station fits right into that mold and it looks good too.
What Is Inside Bluetti’s Beast?
In essence the Bluetti AC 200p is a portable 12v battery producing 2000 watts (w) of power. According to Yahoo Answers the average car battery produces about 500w, this means the capacity to power higher rated appliances is significantly enhanced.
The AC200p is equipped with LiFePo4 (lithium iron phosphate) battery cells:
- Can withstand 20,000 charge cycles (approx). Which is up to 7 times more than lithium iron or lead acid batteries
- Provides constant power throughout discharge
- Fast recharge times
- Cannot catch fire if overcharged, making it much safer
- Less toxic to produce and recycle
A typical 12v battery solar setup would require you to include a separate controller and inverter however, the AC200p has them both built in. This means that if you were using it to provide power to a shed for instance, you would only need a solar panel and the cables to charge the AC 200p. Saving you the trouble of fitting a controller, to then wire to an inverter, then running the cabling to a 12v battery. This could prove messy and time-consuming, phew I’m tired just thinking about it.
Charging your electric car
If you have an electric car there is a real benefit to owning the Bluetti AC 200p. Because of the units versatility, its possible to charge it at home with a portable solar panel and keep it in your car boot. If the charge to run your electric car has become dangerously low, you can top it up with your generator until you find a charge station. It’s a bit like carrying petrol or diesel in your boot for those emergencies, just a lot less flammable.
What Output Ports Come fitted To The Generator?
The Bluetti AC200p portable solar power station is a high-powered large capacity battery that pumps out 2000wh of electricity. This means the generator can provide continuous energy to power most domestic and camping appliances, with up to a 2000w rating. The unit has an attractive industrial like design, with 2 handles one at each end, so it can be carried with both hands. This makes the solar generator easier and safer to move around.
As you would expect the unit comes pre fitted with an impressive array of output ports, seventeen in total including:
- 6 x AC pure sine wave outlets
- 1 x DC 12v/10A constant 12V
- 2 x DC 12v/3A
- 1 x DC 12v/25A
- 1 x USBC fast charge
- 2 x wireless charging both Apple and Android
- 4 x USBA
Powering or charging multiple devices and appliances at the same time isn’t a problem. For instance charging your phone whilst using a hairdryer hardly touches the units capability. So, no need to worry about excessive charge depletion.
Easy to use touch screen
Fitted with a touch LCD screen, the display shows current, voltage, power, temperature and charging status. Altering functions like charging mode can be achieved with a couple of touches of the screen. Setting the generator to eco-mode will automatically power down the unit when the output is less than 0w. This will help prevent electricity loss if it has not been switched off. Great if your memory fails you.
With a MPPT controller installed, the LiFePo4 battery cells can be recharged in 3.5 to 4 hours, using a 700w solar input. Ironically the Bluetti AC200p can also be charged from domestic mains power, a fossil fuel generator like gasoline, or 12v batteries. Although these charge methods defeat the environmental aspect of solar power, they are useful if required.
Tip: The AC200p generator can still be used whilst recharging, however, it will take longer to charge when in use.
Can You Use Common Solar Panels To Recharge A Bluetti AC200p?
Yes you can.
Bluetti say: The portable solar panels connected to the generator must be open circuit. With a working voltage of between 35V-150V, Max.12A, Max.700W (the Final Input Solar Power), with an MC4 Connector.
Too achieve the optimal recharge rate when off-grid, the AC200p generator will require 700w of portable solar panel power. You can achieve this with various combinations such as:
- 3 x 200w and 1 x 100w solar panels
- 4 x 150w and 1 x 100w solar panels
- 2 x 300w and 1 x 100w solar panels
- 7 x 100w solar panels
700w should allow recharge in 3 to 3.5 hours in full sunlight. However, if you are not really concerned about charge times a couple of 200w solar panels should do the trick. Just make making sure that the working open circuit voltage (VOC) of the array is over 35V. The individual VOC of a solar panel can be normally found in the manufacturers product specifications.
In what environments can I use the Bluetti solar generator?
There are many applications and situations you can use the generator when off-grid power is required.
On the road:
Trips, vacations, camping, boondocking at sea, days out. Using an RV, camper, tent, car, boat or yacht.
Provide power to a shed, in the garden, trying to reduce your carbon footprint, taking a step towards achieving energy self-sufficiency. In an emergency such as a power outage or blackout.
In remote locations
without regular electricity or frequent blackouts and outages: Cottages, holiday homes, or cabins and lodges. (The unit cannot power the whole building)
Garages, workshops or outhouses.

What appliances will the Bluetti 2000w generator charge or power?
The Bluetti AC200p 2000w generator will power or charge most appliances when out on the road, and most under a 2000w rating in and around the home,
On the road
- Electronic devices: The unit will charge phones, laptops, tablets, phones, cameras,
hand held games consoles, I-Watches, Fitbits and most other devices that can be charged through a USB port.
- Appliances: It will power mini fridges, coolers, electric grills, lights, blenders, coffee makers, pressure cookers, hair dryers and CPAPs
Around the home
- Wall mounted air conditioning units, garden/exterior lights, sound systems, drills, chest freezers, lamps, refrigerators, and microwaves
Remember: The generator will power most electrical appliances however, they must have a wattage rating under 2000w
What’s Good About The Bluetti AC200p
The LCD-Display is prominent and quite easy to use with various menus and settings. With a touch of the screen you can change things like the output voltage, frequency and charging mode. You will definitely know the generators current state from the screen.
With a 2000w output powering appliances like hairdryers, microwaves and electric stoves and grills won’t be a problem. And you can power them all at the same time.RechargeThis monster battery can be fully recharged in 3.5 to 4 hours with 700 watts of solar panels alone. However, it does have a dual charge capability and charging it with panels and AC mains electricity will reduce the time to 2.5 to 3 hours.

What’s Not So Good About The Bluetti AC200p
The size (16.5 x 11 x 15.2 inches) and weight (60.6lbs – 27,5kg) might put some people off. However, until manufacturers come up with a solution, if big power output is your thing, living with it is an inevitability. I would not recommend using it with a small car, unless it is an electric vehicle and is used for backup.
USB C Port
There is only one USB C Port for fast charging. You would have thought that with a unit of this size, fitting a couple of extra ones would not have been a problem.
At 1,999 dollars or the equivalent in your local currency, this purchase will need consideration. When you add the price of solar panels as well, the cost will rise to $2,600 for the generator + 1 x 200w solar panel. And a full system with optimal charging capability 2 x 200w panels and 1 x 100w panel + generator could cost $4,100, depending on which solar panels you buy.
Solar Power Has Some Limitations
Solar power is fantastic, because it provides an environmentally friendly energy source. Let’s be honest. Without solar panels the world would be relying on smelly, noisy gasoline generators. You just need to be aware of a few things.
- When it is overcast, the PV cells will receive less light. Reducing the rate of charge, meaning it will take longer to charge your leisure battery. This isn’t a major problem, if you reduce the amount of devices you are using during these periods.
- Shade will stop charging altogether. Keep an eye out for this now and again and move the panels into the sunlight if necessary. This is important if you are near an overhang or obstruction such as in and around a forest. You will need to check for shade more often
Should I Buy The Beast Or Give It A Miss?
Of course there are other cheaper solar power generators out there but with less capacity, that are not going to carry the price tag, However if you will be using the 2000w capacity offered by this beast, then its for you. Even with its size and weight it can still be moved around, but if your like me, you won’t want to carry it very far. If you want to buy it for the bragging rights, that’s OK too. And if its for use around the home, it could be your first step towards achieving energy self-sufficiency.
