What Is The ALLPOWERS 100w Portable Solar Charger Panel?
“It is a soft polyester canvas (PVC) constructed portable solar charger. Incorporating 15 x 6.66w SunPower monocrystalline solar panels sewn into the frame. These 15 individual solar panels make up the final 100w output rating. The panels are finished with tough industrial strength PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) polymers. It has a controller unit which has ISolar technology with dual 5v USB ports and a 18v DC port. This means you can charge a smartphone, laptop, tablet, power bank, portable power station, vehicle starter and leisure batteries.“
A Bit About ALLPOWERS
ALLPOWERS was established in 2010 and is based in Guangzhou, China. They manufacture solar power products for customers in over 30 different countries. These include portable foldable and flexible solar panels. Several different portable power stations and various accessories. Specialise in portable solar R&D and can provide professional OEM and ODM services.
|Solar Cell||Monocrystalline (SunPower)|
|Module Type||15 x 6.66w|
|Dimensions Folded||12.6 x 7.5 x 3.2inch/32 x 19 x 8cm|
|Dimensions Unfolded||37 x 37 x 0.39inch/94 x 94 x 1cm|
|USB Outputs||2 x 5V/2.4A (Max)|
|DC Output||1 x 18V/5A (Max)|
The solar panel is made up of 15 individual monocrystalline solar panels. These are SunPower solar cells. The most efficient cells that can be used in a portable solar panel of this type. Boasting an efficiency of 23.5%. It will be far more efficient than a polycrystalline portable solar panel.
A quick note with regard to efficiency. In baking hot conditions it is best to hang the solar charger facing the sun. This is because under these conditions all solar panels lose some efficiency. Hanging it will create airflow around it keeping it cooler which will keep the efficiency higher.
Although the solar charger will collect sunlight all day. If it is flat on the ground it will collect it’s best sunlight when the sun is directly overhead. So to collect the most sunlight all day. It would be better to hang it with the provided caribenas. From your car tent, recreational vehicle or available tree that isn’t shaded.
The 100w solar charger is equipped with dual 5V/2.4A USB output ports. These are capable of charging 2 devices at once. Even though they are capable of that you will not get 2.4A per port. If you connect 2 devices at once I would work on 1A to 1.5A per port.
The DC output 1 x 18V/5A will charge a laptop and there are various adaptors provided for this purpose.
Although the ISolar technology is very good. For certain charging activities such as a 12v battery, I would also use a solar controller. ISolar technology provides;
- Detection of an attached device to deliver the correct charge for that make/model
- The fastest possible charging speeds
- Auto reconnect if charging is interrupted by cloud or shade
- Protect your device from overheating
- Reconnection after charging disruption
- Over current and short circuit protection
The PVC carcass and PET faced solar panels make the portable 100w solar charger very durable. The materials are water resistant and it will survive everyday knocks and bumps. In fact the only real thing that will destroy the panel is fire.
A note with regard to water and liquids. The solar charger has a built-in unit housing the USBs and DC output port. This is not waterproof, neither is it water resistant. As with all electrical components you need to be careful around liquids. This means if it rains, fold it up and stow it away. And do not leave it out overnight it might get wet. Otherwise you might wake up to a dead solar panel !!!!!
Because of the 100w solar chargers size and weight. It is really easy to move around and store. It will even fit into a backpack. Unlike its glass and metal constructed counterparts which need more space and weigh much more. You will have no problems fitting it into the smallest of vehicles. This means you can take it out and about anytime, anyplace and use it anywhere.
What Can The ALLPOWERS 100w Portable Solar Charger Panel Charge?
I have already mentioned it will safely charge smartphones and laptops. But it will charge most devices that use a USB port to charge them. Like a camera. GPS, watch or handheld games etc. As long as you use the original power cord that was supplied with the device.
Backup portable battery power can be important if you are taking a longer trip into the wilderness. Or you would prefer to charge a power bank with the solar charger during the day. Leaving you free to charge an electronic device at night when you are asleep. Using a power bank to charge your laptop may be more appealing to you. Because you are worried about your very expensive laptop being damaged by the solar charger. This shouldn’t happen but if you feel the extra precaution is necessary. Go for it !!!!
Solar Power Station
The DC 18V output port is ideal for charging solar power stations. The solar charger is capable of charging lots of different makes and models including Suaoki, Goal Zero, Jackery, Rockpals, and ENKEEO ect… If you currently own a portable power station and you are looking to hook it up to this 100w solar charger. You should contact your manufacturer to make sure it will connect and work properly with it.

The solar charger will work perfectly well with an ALLPOWERS portable power station such as

Car/Vehicle 12V battery
The solar charger can be used to top up a vehicle battery. Or if your battery is flat and you are without a charging method because you are out and about. It will provide enough charge to start your vehicle and get you going again. It takes about 3-4 hours to fully charge a lead acid battery in full sunlight. So if your alternator wasn’t working it would provide enough charge to get you to a garage. There are crocodile clips supplied with the charger for this purpose.
How can I use the ALLPOWERS 100w solar charger?
The charger can be used in a variety of situations such as;
- Days Out
- Traveling Abroad
- Afternoons In The Garden
- Carried Around In Your Vehicle For Backup
- Agricultural Working and more
It can provide charging during emergencies and power outages. Keeping your portable power station, laptop and mobile phone charged.
What’s Good About The ALLPOWERS 100w Portable Solar Charger?
The versatility of the solar charger is beyond question. It can be used in a variety of settings and applications. Which I have described during the review. You will definitely get your money’s worth considering all the different things it can charge.
Compact and lightweight
The charger folds down to a small size compared to it’s dimensions when fully opened. It is very lightweight compared to suitcase style portable solar panels. And is ideal if you have a physical problem with heavy objects. You will have few problems carrying this solar charger around or finding it somewhere to live.
The solar charger’s construction means that it is very hardwearing. It will survive most weather conditions and mishaps. And will even withstand 100kg of weight placed on it as shown in the promotional video. This all means it is going to last for a very long time and not fall apart.
Works well in cloudy conditions
By all accounts the charger works well in cloudy conditions. This is because of the SunPower solar cells. You can expect its performance to be cut by at least a half or more under these conditions. But lots of reports say that they were still able to charge their phones and laptops, even in northerly latitudes.
What’s Not So Good About ALLPOWERS 100w Portable Solar Charger?
Provided cables might be too short
Some people have complained that some of the cables provided in the shipped pack are not long enough. If you find this is the case ALLPOWERS sell a variety of extension cables on their website. And if you are reasonable at DIY you could always extend the cables yourself.
Electrical housing unit cap can come apart
There have been some reports that the plastic cap on the electrical housing unit can break away. This may just have been a small problem with a certain batch. But if this happens to you there is an 18month warranty. So you know what to do because ALLPOWERS seem happy to replace the unit if this happens.
A solar controller will be needed charging 12V batteries
Even though the built-in ISolar technology is very good when charging 12V batteries or a laptop I would add a separate solar controller. This is because you might forget that you have the battery charging. So as a precaution adding a controller will give you peace of mind. Knowing that when your battery is fully charged it will cut off and not overcharge and damage it. There is a 20V solar controller available on ALLPOWERS website

|Camouflage 100w Portable Solar Charger||$199.99|

ALLPOWERS 100w Portable Solar Charger Vs The BigBlue 100w Solar Charger
|ALLPOWERS 100w||BigBlue 100w|
|Solar Cell||Monocrystalline (SunPower)||Monocrystalline|
|Module Type||15 x 6.66w||12 x 8.33w|
|Efficiency||23.5%||Up to 22%|
|Dimensions Folded||12.6 x 7.5 x 3.2inch/32 x 19 x 8cm||15.16 x 8.23 x 3.15inch|
|Dimensions Unfolded||37 x 37 x 0.39inch/94 x 94 x 1cm||48.74 x 30.47 x 0.13inch|
|USB Outputs||2 x 5V/2.4A (Max)||1 x 5V/2A|
1 x 5V/3A – 9V/2A – 12V/1.5A (Max)1 x Type C 5V/3A – 9V/3A – 12V/3A – 20V-3A (Max)
|DC Output||1 x 18V/5A (Max)||1 x 12-19V/5.2A (Max)|
|Warranty||18 Months||18 Months|
Both these portable solar chargers pretty much perform the same duties. The BigBlue isn’t as efficient as the ALLPOWERS and there is a weight difference between the two. The BigBlue scores with the output ports 4 v 3 and it has faster charging ports. There is also a $30 price difference in favour of the BigBlue.
The comparison between the two has thrown up key differences between them and it is up to you which of those differences you are leaning towards. As a help if you can’t make up your mind consider this;
If you want a lighter more efficient 100w charger the ALLPOWERS looks a good bet. But if you want more ports with faster charging and a slightly better price the BigBlue could be for you.

Solar Power Has Some Limitations
Solar power is fantastic, because it provides an environmentally friendly energy source. Let’s be honest. Without solar panels the world would be relying on smelly, noisy gasoline generators. You just need to be aware of a few things.
When it is overcast, the PV cells will receive less light. Reducing the rate of charge, meaning it will take longer to charge your batteries. This isn’t a major problem. Until full sunlight returns, limit the number of devices you are planning to power or charge .
Shade will stop charging altogether. Keep an eye out for this now and again and move the ALLPOWERS 100w portable solar Charger back into the sunlight if necessary. This is important if you are near an overhang or obstruction such as in and around a forest. You will need to check for shade more often.
My Closing Thoughts
The versatility of the ALLPOWERS Portable Solar Charger is a big draw. Along with its weight and durable construction. I have a sneaky feeling it would be charging your smartphone for many years to come.
I also really like the usefulness of the charger for camping and being out and about. Also for emergency backup power during a power outage. And the way it can be easily stored.
With not that many 100w chargers of this type on the market (there are plenty of the glass and metal variety out there). I think if you have a back problem or looking for something that has multiple uses. It could be the answer you are looking for.
